Conference 2009

Dear Luo and Friends Around the World,

It is with great honor that I, the Chair of Luo United Communities Organization (LUCO), invite you to the second Luo annual conference to appreciate our similar Luo culture from the Great Lakes Luo Nations of East Africa.

The Luo are subgroups of the Luo speaking people who spread from Sudan, Uganda through Congo to Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia.

Luo is not a tribe but a lifestyle as expressed during the first, ever, Luo annual conference in 2008. Please visit LUCO website at www.luounite.net for more information about the first Luo annual conference.

I am delighted to invite all Luo and friends to join us for the second annual conference on August-15-2009 at 10:00 am in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Be prepared to learn more about the history of Luo migration across the Great Lakes of East Africa, similarities and differences among the Luo people, enjoy traditional dance, songs, food and other activities.

Also, attendees are encouraged to bring and explain traditional artifacts; example musical instruments and costumes. It is advised that participants who wish to share Luo artifacts contact the conference organizing team in advance.

On behalf of LUCO, I look forward to celebrating Luo annual conference 2009 with you. Once again, Luo is not a tribe…It is a lifestyle!

    Hi Obote,
Finally, You have already hit the nail on top by posting on ASnet “Luo United communities organization. This structure is like what I have already stated before on ASnet that our beloved Luo brother/ son His excellency Barack Obama coming to power as the first African America US president officially on Jan. 20th, 2009 would unite us all Luo communities under “LUO UNION”, similary “LUO HERITAGE” that,s mean we shall be ever stronger, competetive, and successful in both Political, and Socio- economic ” Change that we can believe in….
I really naturally love Luos people, cultures, and Intelligences that I, and my family is very proud of, specially our beloved brother/ son US president His excellency Barack Obama, and his beautiful graceful family; our first lady honourable Michelle Obama, Shasha, and Malia Obama.
Thanks, and wish you all good luck in your leaderships. Faithfully, Yours brother, Richard Okot.

good to be human, on earth, in this noble yet humble stock. Never seeking praise nor despising, never provoking nor succumbing to what debases anything human.

Your efforts in bringing the luos together is loudable. The luo traditional lifestyle was superb, democratic governance at the clan level a recipe for peace and development in subsaharan africa, nurture of free expression an important ingredient for academic prosperity.

Anything directing us to perpetuate positive aspects of luo culture, investmentsI including cultural tourism) and educating young luos to the highets levels possible is welcome.

Wherever you we are, we are scouting for scholarship for the luo, investments by the luo in luo.

I would like very much to trace my ancestry. I’m a Kenyan Luo, and am curious because my family can only trace their heritage as far as Oyuma/ also Uyoma. I know there’s a different name but I can’t recall what it was.

we need to have a section of the website where such matters can be clarified. This is my most sincere request to the admin. Also, could you put LUCO on FaceBook? It will spread like wildfire because there’s not a single Luo who will not want to be a member.

We already have the groups Young Luos Online and Luo Is Not A Tribe But A Lifestyle. Bring all these under LUCO. Thank you.

I have relished reading the article re-establishing the Luo link to Egypt and its civilization. One only needs to look at the Sphinx and the attempts by the Imperial Luo denialists to bomb its face to obscure its Luo features, for one to understand that we indeed are descended from much deeper civilization. My plea is we should indoctrinate our children to appreciate their heritage. Though a Kenyan Luo living in South Africa, my 10 year old daughter proudly identifies herseld as Sudanese and mentions Kenya as a land her ancestors migrated to. Long live LUO UNITED.
